چکیده

L I G H T microscopical investigations of the neurones of pulmonate gastropods reveal that certain nerve-cells contain neurosecretory droplets. This has been observed in Basommatophora (Grzycki, 1951; Lever, 1957, 1958; Lever, Kok, Meuleman, andjoosse, 1961 ;Wautier, Pavans de Ceccatty, Richardot, Buisson, and Hernandez, 1961) and in stylommatophoran slugs, such as Limax, Milax, and Arion (Herlant-Meewis and Van Mol, 1959; Van Mol, i960; Quattrini, i960,1962; Pelluetand Lane, I96i)and snails (Kuhlmann, 1963), particularly Helix (Thomas, 1951; Sanchez and Pavans de Ceccatty, 1957; Tuzet, Sanchez, andPavans de Ceccatty, 1957; Sanchez and Bord, 1958; Gersch, 1959; Krause, i960; Lane, 1962, 1963). Electron microscopical studies on Helix pomatia (Dalton, i960; McGee-Russell, 1962) give an ultrastructural basis for the light microscopical results, for they indicate that elementary neurosecretory granules are present in the neuronal cell-body. In an earlier examination of the ultrastructure of the neurones of H. aspersa (Chou and Meek, 1958), no mention of the existence of elementary granules was made. The present observations were made during a re-examination of the fine structure of the neurones of H. aspersa, in an attempt to investigate the ultrastructural localization of certain enzymes (Meek and Lane, 1963) and to determine whether the Golgi complex is a distinct cytoplasmic organelle, or whether, as suggested by Chou and Meek (1958), it is formed by distortion of the phospholipid droplets during fixation with fluids not containing calcium ions.

The modulatory effects of orexin B on the calcium channels activity in neuronal cells of Helix aspersa (garden snail)

Introduction: The functional effects of orexin-B on the calcium spikes and excitability of the neuronal soma membrane of garden snail, Helix aspersa were studied. Methods: Conventional intracellular recording, under the current clamp conditions was performed to examine the effects of orexin-B on the configuration and electrophysiological properties of calcium spikes. Results: Application o...

Plateau-generating Nerve Cells in Helix: Morphological and Electrophysiological Characteristics

We describe the anatomical and electrophysiological characteristics of a group of Helix nerve cells, styled P cells, that generate long-lasting depolarizations in response to repeated stimulations at low frequencies. Four neurones were identified in the perioesophageal ganglia of the snail Helix pomatia. Their structure was determined by intracellular injection of Lucifer Yellow, cobaltlysine o...

An application of the constant-field theory to the behaviour of giant neurones of the snail, Helix aspersa.

This paper describes some experiments on the resting potentials of giant neurones in the common snail, Helix asperse. The central neurones of a number of gastropods represent, in terms of size and accessibility, an ideal subject for study by means of intracellular glass capillary microelectrodes. The suboesophageal ganglia of the common snail contain many neurones of diameters ranging from 40 t...

Electrophysiological investigation of the cellular effect of anethole, the chief constitute of anise, on F1 neuronal excitability in garden snail

Introduction: Anethole is the main constituent of Pimpinella anisum L. (anise), a herbaceous annual plant which has several therapeutic effects. In the folk medicine, anise is employed as an antiepileptic drug. Specifically, this study was focused on the cellular effect of anethole, an aromatic compound in essential oils from anise and camphor. Anethole has various physiological effects on t...
